Hand Evaluation: 10’s,
11’s & 12’s Quiz Answers
1.
Pass – The hand has three flaws: a 4-3-3-3 hand pattern, no
intermediates, and you would have to open a three-card suit.
2.
1♦ - Barely. The hand has no intermediates, but it does
have aces and kings and you are bidding a four-card suit.
3.
Pass – That Jxx does us in!
4.
Pass – No convenient rebid if partner responds 1♠. A
1NT rebid with a small singleton in partner’s suit usually results in a
disaster.
The clubs are not strong enough to rebid and you are only 6
HCP light of a reverse to 2♥.
5.
1♠ - Finally an 11 point hand with an easy rebid.
6.
1♠ - Most 11 point hands with 5-5 distribution
open. However, if your singleton is a
queen or king, pass.
7.
1♠ - When the concentration of strength is in the long
suits, bid aggressively; when the concentration of strength is in the shorts
suits, bid conservatively.
8.
Pass – No concentration in the longs suits and no
intermediates.
9.
Pass – With 4-4-4-1 and a black singleton, you need 12 HCP to
open.
10. 1♣ - Even though you
have only an 11 point hand, you have a red singleton plus good intermediates –
all you need!
